Alfred was born on February 28th, 1846 in Ilton, Somerset, England. Alfred's father was Samuel Adams and his mother was Hannah J Mead.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Adams and Hannah Adams; his maternal grandparents were James Mead and Martha Bazell ?. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Charles William, George, Eli, James, Jane and Ellen.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 55 in July 1901 in Bath, Somerset, England.
